Following the release of “Ramayana: Part 1” on November 5, audiences are already looking forward to the second installment of Nitesh Tiwari’s epic adaptation. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, the two-part saga brings one of India's most celebrated epics to the big screen on an unprecedented scale.
While the first installment introduces audiences to Rama and Sita's journey, their life in exile and the events leading up to Sita's abduction by Ravana, the second part is expected to take the story towards its grandest chapter – the battle between Rama's army and Ravana's forces in Lanka.
With producer Namit Malhotra sharing an update on the film's revised release timeline and Ranbir Kapoor revealing details about the shoot, here's everything we know about “Ramayana: Part 2” so far.

Release Date Pushed by a Year
The second installment was initially expected to release around Diwali 2027. However, Malhotra has now indicated that the film will take longer to reach the big screen. Explaining the decision to extend the production timeline, he said the team wants to give the second installment the time it needs to match the scale and ambition of the first film.
He explained, “So the idea was now that we've got so much excitement that the world has had, we want to take a little bit more time to make sure that when we present the grand finale, we have a little bit more time to do what we did in Part 1. That extra year is what we genuinely believe we need to do justice for a film of this size.”
He further added, “When you see Part 2 coming, that will be a whole other story. We didn't want to do a rush job or get ahead of ourselves. We want to deliver the finale in the most grand way it deserves.”
The sequel is now expected to arrive in 2028, although an official release date is yet to be announced.
Sunny Deol and Raghav Juyal to Lead the Lanka Battle
The principal cast of “Ramayana” will return for the second installment. Ranbir Kapoor will reprise his role as Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi will return as Sita. Yash will once again portray Ravana, the king of Lanka.
The main attractions in the cast list are Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Raghav Juyal and Meghnad. Deol’s Hanuman shall play a crucial role in Rama's battle against Ravana. Juyal, meanwhile, will be seen as Meghnad, also known as Indrajit, Ravana's son and the crown prince of Lanka.
Sunny Deol was introduced in the post-credit sequence of “Ramayana: Part 1,” while Juyal was shown as Meghnad towards the end of the movie, setting stage for their expanded roles in the sequel.

The Grand War Between Rama and Ravana
While the first instalment chronicles Rama and Sita's journey, their exile and Ravana's abduction of Sita, the second part will move towards the epic battle in Lanka.
The war, also known as the Battle of Lanka, will see Rama's army take on Ravana's forces in an attempt to rescue Sita and defeat the king of Lanka. With Hanuman and the Vanara Sena playing important roles in the battle, the sequel is expected to feature some of the epic's most significant confrontations. The introduction of Meghnad in the first film also sets up another major character in the conflict, given his position as one of Lanka's most formidable warriors.
80 Percent of the Shoot is Complete
Despite the revised release timeline, production on “Ramayana: Part 2” has been progressing. Ranbir Kapoor recently revealed that approximately 80 percent of the film's shoot has been completed. The update offers a glimpse into the scale of the production, particularly as the second installment will feature the epic war sequence and several major confrontations from the “Ramayana.”
