Salman Khan Wins Interim Relief as Delhi High Court Orders ‘Kala Hiran’ Teaser To Be Removed
The Delhi High Court has directed the makers of the proposed film "Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy" to remove its teaser and related promotional material from online platforms, granting interim relief to Salman Khan in his ongoing personality rights suit against the filmmakers.
Justice Jyoti Singh ordered the producers to take down the teaser and promotional content within 24 hours. The court also indicated that if the filmmakers failed to comply, online platforms including YouTube and X would be directed to remove the material. The order additionally extends to interviews and promotional content linked to the film that the actor challenged in his plea.
Salman Khan approached the court alleging that the film's promotional material made unauthorized use of his personality and public image by drawing unmistakable parallels with him, including references that he argued were connected to the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. The actor contended that the teaser violated his personality rights and had the potential to prejudice ongoing legal proceedings while harming his reputation.

During the hearing, the court observed that there was a prima facie case of infringement and emphasized the importance of protecting an individual's reputation. Justice Singh remarked that reputational harm could not easily be undone, noting that even a brief period of circulation could cause lasting damage.
The filmmakers have denied the allegations, maintaining that the film does not unlawfully appropriate Khan's identity or personality. Earlier proceedings also saw the producers tell the court that the film had not yet been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification and that neither the film nor its trailer would be released pending the court's consideration of the matter.
The dispute forms part of Salman Khan's broader legal efforts to safeguard his personality and publicity rights, an area of law that has gained increasing prominence in India as celebrities seek greater protection against the unauthorized commercial use of their identity.
