‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ Finds Stability at Box Office, Sees A Close To 50% Jump on Tuesday

Imtiaz Ali’s “Main Vaapas Aaunga” has witnessed an encouraging turnaround at the Indian box office, with strong audience appreciation helping the film hold its ground after an underwhelming opening. The romantic period drama collected ₹1.60 crore nett on its first discounted Tuesday, registering a 44% increase from Monday’s ₹1.11 crore nett.

The film’s five-day India nett total now stands at ₹8.20 crore. It opened with ₹1.20 crore on Friday before recording healthy weekend growth, collecting ₹1.82 crore on Saturday and ₹2.47 crore on Sunday. While collections dipped on Monday, the Tuesday jump indicates that the film has managed to generate steady traction through positive word of mouth.

Set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, “Main Vaapas Aaunga” tells an intimate love story amid one of the most turbulent chapters in the history of the Indian subcontinent. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari and Vedang Raina.

The film’s journey has been particularly notable because it has relied less on a front-loaded opening and more on audience discovery. Positive reactions to its emotional storytelling and performances have contributed to its ability to sustain itself during the crucial weekday period.

The discounted Tuesday boost has further improved the film’s first-week prospects, with “Main Vaapas Aaunga” now expected to close its opening week close to the ₹10 crore nett mark, a figure that would place it slightly ahead of early trade expectations.

Whether the film can maintain this momentum into its second weekend remains to be seen, but its current trend suggests that “Main Vaapas Aaunga” has managed to find a stronger footing at the box office after a slow start, demonstrating the importance of word-of-mouth for films driven by content rather than opening-day spectacle.
