Kim Hye Jun, Kang Hoon and Cha Woo Min On K-Pop Fandoms And ‘My Bias, My Boss’’s BL Arc (EXCLUSIVE)
K-Drama “My Bias, My Boss” recently wrapped its six-week run. Starring Kim Hye Jun, Kang Hoon and Cha Woo Min in the lead roles, the plot follows a devoted K-Pop fangirl who lands a job at her favorite star’s company. She suspects a romantic relationship between him and the CEO. Her suspicions fuel an unexpected love triangle between the three, leading to a chaotic turn of events.
The show has drawn praise for its nuanced portrayal of the tender bond between a fan and their favorite singer, while highlighting the importance of maintaining healthy boundaries. The three lead actors, in an exclusive conversation with Variety India, share their thoughts on their characters and the dynamics they share.
Reflecting on how her own experience as a K-Pop superfan helped her shape her character, Kim Hye Jun says, “Seeing Nam Da Reum watch music shows and get excited about her favorite idols with her friends reminded me a lot of those experiences. Drawing from those memories, I was able to portray Da Reum as a truly enthusiastic and devoted fan.”
Meanwhile, Kang Hoon, who plays CEO Kang Ha Gi, has earlier spoken about how his dream of meeting Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon led him to acting. Asked how he would react if he got the chance to work with his favorite star, he says, “I’d be really excited. I’d probably introduce myself carefully and let them know I’m a fan. But I wouldn’t want to make them feel uncomfortable, so I’d say hello and continue to support them from afar in my heart.”

He also reflects on the affection and rivalry between his character and Cha Woo Min’s Lee Chan, and whether he would be willing to give up his feelings for a friend. “Rather than focusing on his sense of rivalry with Chan, I focused on how Ha Gi gradually finds his way into Da Reum’s heart, recognizes his own feelings, but before that, he works through the wounds he has carried. If I were in a situation like this in real life, I don’t think I could give up my feelings for the sake of a friend.”
Addressing the affection and rivalry between his character and Cha Woo Min’s Lee Chan, he opens up about whether he would be willing to sacrifice love for a friend. He says, “Rather than focusing on his sense of rivalry with Chan, I focused on how Ha Gi gradually finds his way into Da Reum’s heart and recognizes his own feelings. But before that, he works through the wounds he has carried. If I were in a situation like this in real life, I don’t think I could give up my feelings for the sake of a friend.”
Kang Hoon says the story gave him and Cha Woo Min ample scope to establish a strong bromance between them, even as the narrative briefly hints at a boys’ love (BL) angle. “Da Reum misunderstands the relationship between Chan and Ha Gi, so we needed to create certain moments that would lead her to that misunderstanding. I had a lot of conversations with Woo Min about how to approach those scenes. The two characters are close friends and are naturally quite affectionate with each other. It was simply a device to create the misunderstanding. Other than that, there was no difficulty in portraying them as close friends,” he says.
Cha Woo Min, too, did not worry about the plotline being mistaken for BL and instead embraced the character. He says, “I wasn’t concerned about it. I thought the physical affection was perfectly natural between close friends, so I was able to have fun with it while filming.”

He recalls admiring K-Pop stars in high school, but never imagined playing one himself. About bonding with the singers who portrayed his DNX bandmates on the show — Yoon Hyun Suk, who plays Hyeok, is a member of CIX, while Baek Seung, who portrays Tae Oh, is a member of EPEX- he shares, “While idols and actors share the common ground of being entertainers, there are differences in the ways they express themselves. That’s why I asked the members of DNX, who are actual idols, a lot of questions. Through that process, we naturally became closer as well.”
The show portrays a healthy celebrity-fan relationship, emphasizing the importance of respecting boundaries even when admiration runs deep. Cha Woo Min says, “Look at Da Reum’s dialogues after Chan’s confession. No matter how much you may admire someone, I believe that valuing each other’s personal lives and maintaining an appropriate distance is a way of showing consideration and respect for one another.”
The 25-year-old hopes the show helps people reflect on the choices they make while pursuing happiness, while Kim sees it as a reminder to love themselves. Lastly, Kang looks forward to audiences supporting each character as they “sincerely fall in love with someone and go through the process of discovering their true selves”.
