Historical Drama ‘The Revolutionaries’ Features 7 Songs Across 8 Episodes (EXCLUSIVE)
“The Revolutionaries,” the historical series set to premiere on September 11, is finding its rhythm through music. The series has seven tracks ranging to romance to deviotional. “Maahiya,” “Jai Durga” and “Aur Aayenge” already out, the series has built an album just like a Hindi film. It's clutter breaker. One would imagine a historical to have patriotic songs, but the makers have at the series with a lens, that goes beyond the subject. For director Nikkhil Advani, the music is woven into the story itself, helping shape its emotions, characters and the larger narrative.
On how the songs fit into the world of a historical series, Advani says, “Whether it is “Devdas,” “Lagaan,” “Dharam Veer” or “RRR,” the music has always been extremely strong and an integral part of the storytelling." Hindi films has always used music effectively to take the narrative forward, Advani decided to use to add songs to the series to connect his young characters to the viewers.
The director notes, “Situations will only help enhance the music. It will enhance the storytelling, whether there is a period or whether it is something modern. A bad selection of music or just putting songs for the sake of it will even make a contemporary film feel notrelevant. So, it has got nothing to do with the historical period. It has to do with the ability for the storyteller to be able to integrate the song into the story. Music is a very important part of your work.”

Advani details the process of bringing the album together and creating its uplifting sound. “I got T-Series and Shivam Chanana involved right in the beginning. I went to meet up with them, give them the situations, and tell them the kind of songs that they wanted. Bhushan Kumar has a pulse for the music, and songs, and they gave me a lot of options. They worked with me with the best of the singers and lyricists. And that's how we came up with the album,” he adds.
Speaking about the collaboration and the challenges of creating music for the series, Advani shares, “The challenge was to be consistent throughout the eight episodes. So as long as you have clarity on that, the music sessions can happen anywhere. Whether it's a studio, the T-Series office, a vanity van, or on my set. A lot of the music was actually composed while I was already shooting.”

Nothing is a universal tuning fork more than wonderful songs, and “The Revolutionaries” has a wonderfully curated album to offer.”

Bhushan Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of T-Series mentions how the music elevates the emotions in the series, “The idea was to create an album that felt intrinsic to the world and emotions of the series. Nikkhil came to us right at the beginning with a very clear vision of the situations, emotions, and kind of music he wanted, which allowed us to build the album. We worked closely with him to bring together the right composers, singers and lyricists, and explored a range of songs before arriving at the final album.”
The series stars Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta and Gurfateh Pirzada in leading roles.
