‘Dune: Part Three’ Trailer Review: Timothée Chalamet And Zendaya Face Off In A Devastating Galactic War

Warner Bros dropped the highly anticipated trailer for “Dune: Part Three” last night, delivering an absolute powerhouse of a sneak peek that promises to shatter everything fans thought they knew about the franchise. Director Denis Villeneuve is officially back to finish the story he started, jumping headfirst into Frank Herbert’s dark 1969 sequel novel, “Dune Messiah”. While the previous movies tracked the classic rise of an underdog hero, this massive new footage pulls back the curtain on the terrifying reality of what happens when that hero actually wins the universe.

The trailer kicks off with a devastatingly personal confrontation that sets the tone for the entire film. In a tense, emotionally raw scene, Chani directly confronts the galactic ruler. Zendaya delivers a heartbreaking accusation, reminding a silent Paul (Timothée Chalamet) that she truly trusted him. She furiously throws his past words back at him, reminding him how he once promised her that he would never take power in his own name and that she was his true home. This bitter clash immediately shifts the narrative forward into a massive timeline leap, showing just how far they have both fallen from the young lovers who once hid in the deep deserts of Arrakis.

The official synopsis notes that nearly two decades have passed since Paul unleashed his Fremen legions upon the cosmos. The long time jump has completely transformed Arrakis and ravaged the youthful face of its ruler. Sporting a harsh new buzzcut, Timothée Chalamet embodies a world-weary god-king who is practically buckling under the weight of his own absolute power.

The stakes are higher than ever because Paul’s holy war has officially consumed the galaxy. He has become the undisputed figurehead of both church and state, crushing anyone who dares stand against his supreme empire. Yet, tyranny breeds rebellion. The old powers of the imperium are aligning to strike back, with the Bene Gesserit, the Spacing Guild and the mysterious Tleilaxu plotting to dismantle Paul's monopoly on spice production.

In a stunning narrative shift that builds on that opening confrontation, Chani appears to be directly involved in a conspiracy to overthrow her former partner. The rift that began at the end of the second film has widened into a grand canyon of resentment. Zendaya delivers another fiercely mocking moment later in the footage, asking a heavily guarded Paul how it feels to finally be human like everyone else.

Adding massive fuel to this political fire is the introduction of a silver-haired, bleached-out Robert Pattinson. Going full villain mode as the sinister shapeshifter Scytale, Pattinson is shown openly conspiring for a violent regime change alongside Princess Irulan. Florence Pugh's Irulan warns him that his plot is a death warrant, but Scytale hints that he has a secret weapon, immediately followed by shots of Chani leading a rebellion.

The trailer also gives book fans plenty to dissect, most notably the resurrection of Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho. This version of Idaho is a ghola, a physical clone named Hayt created by the Tleilaxu to psychologically unravel the Emperor. In one of the most intense dialogue exchanges, Hayt tells Paul that he is way beyond redemption after conquering the galaxy and destroying thousands of worlds.

Villeneuve balances these heavy ideological clashes with jaw-dropping cinematic scale. The visuals show sweeping aerial warfare, intense sandstorms, laser battles and a blood-drenched, screaming Alia Atreides played by a returning Anya Taylor-Joy. Hans Zimmer provides a haunting, heavy score that amplifies the grim reality of a galaxy on fire.

With massive sandworms charging into battle and old allies turning into deadly threats, this trailer positions Dune 3 as an unforgettable cinematic climax. The footage ends on a chilling note, with Paul declaring to millions of roaring subjects that he must not die just yet, while Chani charges forward with a drawn crysknife. This is no longer a story about saving a world. It is an epic epilogue about the terrifying cost of worshiping a savior.

Dune 3 releases in theatres on December 18
