‘Drishyam 3’ Trailer Review: Mohanlal’s Georgekutty Grapples With Fear, Secrets and His Conscience
It isn't over until it's over. If there's anything a good franchise does well, it is to know when to call it quits and end a stellar run. Putting a full-stop while on a high is always a great idea.
Director Jeethu Joseph is probably signalling just that with the just-dropped trailer for Mohanlal-led "Drishyam 3" ahead of the film's release on May 21. The legend of Georgekutty, which began in 2013, finally appears to come to a close.
The trailer does a brief recap with an intercut where-are-they-now bit on the supporting characters even as the media and police move on from the did-he-didn't-he to the how-did-he-do-it. There's clearly sustained interest in the case even though quite some time has passed since the incident that started this franchise.

What's good: Restraint is the name of the game as Mohanlal's Georgekutty and family resolutely stick to their story in the face of scathing scrutiny. But the needle seems to have moved a slight bit. And that's where the trailer really comes to life. When the fear moves out of the shadows and leaps onto Georgekutty's face. That shift is palpable and not just apparent. You now want to know, what new evidence has come to light. You want to know what "it cost him." The suspense conveyed in the teaser that dropped last month, now reaches fever pitch.
What's not: The admission of guilt could've been left for the film. And while that may exist as a red herring, it seems like a gimmicky one.
There's clearly more to come as the film's title fades in with the tagline 'The Truth Never Stays Silent.' What's coming on May 21? And like Georgekutty himself asks, "Is it over, really?"
