Anushka Sen On Korean Romance ‘Jeju Olle’: “It’s My First Commercial Film” (EXCLUSIVE)
Cultural collaborations between India and South Korea are infrequent and so every crossover between the two deserves celebration. Actor Anushka Sen, who just finished shooting for her Korean film “Jeju Olle,’ was in a celebratory mood as she speaks exclusively to Variety India about the experience of working on the Korean project.
Speaking from Jeju Island, Sen, 23, calls "Jeju Olle" "a beautiful romantic musical full of love, friendship and rediscovery. This is a very special project for me because it’s my first commercial film and it just happens to be a Korean one.”

The Lucifer Productions, Storyworks and Celebridge production follows Indian singer and actor Alisha Sen, who comes to Jeju to grieve the loss of her sister. She meets another singer-songwriter, Sunwoo (played by Kang Hyung Seok), who has stepped away from the industry to find some time alone. About the equation between the two characters, Anushka Sen shares, “It all starts with a misunderstanding. But then you see how they grow as individuals and their bond.”
Gushing about working with the "Jeju Olle" cast, she adds, “There are no words that can express my gratitude and how happy I am to be able to work with the team of ‘Jeju Olle.’ I call Kang (‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,’ ‘Love in Contract’) Hyung-nim. When we first met, we wondered how we would communicate. He speaks a little English, but he also learned so much and took English classes every single day, and I was taking Korean classes so that we could speak to one another.” She reveals that she enjoyed his K-dramas even before working with him, calling herself a “fan” of his performances.
Sen further shares how the 52-hour workweek helped her explore the island and bond with her co-stars. She was also glad to have her parents with her for the shoot. “They were happy and emotional at the same time. They have seen my journey up close. They've supported me and seen me grow as a person and an actress. This is just the beginning, and I have a long way to go, but without their support, this wouldn't have been possible.”
Sen was reportedly cast in the yet-to-release Korean project, "Asia." She expresses happiness over being part of "Jeju Olle", noting that she has a few more weeks of post-production work left before returning home to Mumbai. While an official release date remains under wraps, the actor says the romantic musical is expected to premiere by year-end.
