Sources close to the project say “Gabru” holds a special significance for the actor. “For Sunny Deol, ‘Gabru’ is not just another project, but a story that resonates with him on a deeply personal level. The film reflects themes of courage, identity, and resilience— elements that have always defined his cinematic journey. The makers are adopting a carefully curated release strategy to honor the film’s intimate narrative and strong emotional core, ensuring it connects meaningfully with audiences,” said the source.

Apart from Deol, the film also stars Simran and Prit Kamani in lead roles. The film boasts excellent music tracks composed by Mithoon and lyrics by Sayeed Quadri, Satinder Sartaj and Anurag Saikya. The film marks a significant departure from Deol’s established macho image, popularized through high-octane action dramas such as the “Gadar” and “Border” franchises. Deol will follow “Gabru” with Rajkumar Santoshi's “Lahore 1947,” which is slated to release during the Independence Day weekend this year. He will then feature as Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari's most-anticipated “Ramayana,” scheduled to release on Diwali 2026.
Deol's recent release, “Border 2,” has emerged as a massive success at the box office. The film has earned over 322 crore net in India and approx. 440 crore gross worldwide in 25 days, reaffirming Deol’s enduring box-office appeal even at the age of 68.
