‘Varanasi’: Priyanka Chopra’s Telugu Dubbing Update; Producer KL Narayana clarifies (EXCLUSIVE)
In a recent social media interaction with fans, Priyanka Chopra let on that she is learning to speak Telugu for her sci-fi flick “Varanasi.” The film, which marks her return to Indian cinema after a six-year gap, features her as the fierce Mandakini.
As reported by Variety India, PC did not dub for the Hindi versions of her series Citadel season 1 and 2. Sayani Gupta stepped in as the voice of Chopra. Interestingly, Gupta was also the Hindi voice for the Desi Girl in the Amazon Original movie, The Bluff.
While Chopra is proficient in Hindi, she did not dub for her last few series and films, and curiosity is rife whether the actress will speak in Telugu in “Varanasi,” a language she is not familiar with.
When quizzed, Producer of the film, KL Narayana, stated, “No decision has been taken yet. While shooting the Telugu version, she speaks in a mix of English, Hindi and Telugu. But it is too soon to discuss this matter. We also plan to release the film in other languages. We will only take a call on her dubbing closer to the release date.”

In “Varanasi,” Priyanka will also be performing intense action in the film. It’s been reported that the actress has requested for a special song to be shot featuring her and Telugu star Mahesh Babu. As Mandakani, Priyanka’s character finds herself caught between the protagonist Rudra, played by Mahesh Babu, and the antagonist Kumbha, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
“Varanasi” is a time-travel adventure drama set in the city of Varanasi, which faces the impending arrival of an asteroid and its catastrophic impact on the city. The film, which Durga Arts has produced on an estimated budget of 1,300 crores, according to Sacnilk, is gearing up for release on April 7, 2027.
