‘Tripling’ Actor Amol Parashar on ‘Besharam Aadmi’ London Run: ‘It Was Even Better Than Our Expectations’ (EXCLUSIVE)
For actor Amol Parashar, nothing replicates the energy of performing live before an audience. He should know. He is in London now, holding shows of his Hindi play, “Besharam Aadmi.” After doing 26 shows in India, his play has finally hit foreign shores. Amol Parashar tells Variety India, “Going back on stage and doing one-man shows has been a personal fantasy for a while, and I’m glad that I have finally been able to make this come true. I hadn’t imagined that our international leg would happen so fast, but with the confidence that the audiences have given us, we felt encouraged to take it to Hindi-speaking audiences across the globe.”

He says the feeling that he is performing in London is yet to sink in. Amol describes the city as a melting pot, with a thriving and vibrant theatre culture. He tells us, “With a large Hindi-speaking population, we were sure to get a good response, but right from the first trip, it was even better than our expectations. Performing here feels surreal, as this is a city filled with all kinds of live art and performances. From big musicals to experimental art, the city has this energy. To take our story to an audience that laps it up, in a beautiful venue in London, is something that is still sinking in. We will definitely be coming back here for a longer run, and are already planning our trips to other parts of the world.”
Amol confesses that theater gives him a bigger high than any other medium can. He says, “The risk factor is the biggest shot of adrenaline one can get as a performer. The fact that anything can go wrong and often does. There’s no cut, no retake, no editor saving you. It’s just you, the audience, and that one moment that will never happen again in the same way. Also, the feedback is immediate. If a joke lands, you feel it in your bones. If it doesn’t, you feel that also in your bones (and your soul). There’s something addictive about that live exchange. It’s terrifying and intoxicating at the same time. No screen can replicate that energy."
