Shraddha Kapoor-Ulka Gupta Dance-off In ‘Eetha’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Eetha’ releases in August. The actress is playing renowned Marathi lavani dancer Vithabai Narayangaonkar in the biopic. The teaser of “Eetha” released five days ago, giving a glimpse into the world of the celebrated artiste. Actress Ulka Gupta is playing the role of Vithabai’s best friend, Gajra, in the movie. It is learned that one of the movie's attractions is a dance-off between Shraddha Kapoor and Ulka Gupta. The two rehearsed for days to master the movements for the dance number.

Gupta began her career in Indian Television from “Saat Phere - Saloni Ka Safar.” However, it was “Jhansi Ki Rani” (2009) that made her a household name. She has been part of TV shows such as “Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev” and “Banni Chow Home Delivery.” The actress was last seen in the movie, “The Kerala Story 2."

Bollywood dance-offs between leading female actors have always captivated audiences. Madhuri has done this three times. It began with Karisma Kapoor and her matching steps in "Dil To Pagal Hai’s" "Dance of Envy," followed by the iconic pairing with Aishwarya Rai in "Devdas’s" "Dola Re Dola." Continuing the legacy in "Bhool Bhulaiyya" with Vidya Balan in a stunning fusion that blends Kathak, Odissi and Bharatanatyam. Sanjay Leela Bhansali pitted Priyanka Chopra against Deepika Padukone in "Bajirao Mastani’s" "Pinga." Rakesh Roshan was the OG who shot Rekha and Sonu Walia's dance track “Main Haseena Gazab Ki” in "Khoon Bhari Maang."

“Eetha,” based on the life of famous Marathi folk, lavani, and Tamasha dancer Vithabai Narayangaonkar, is directed by Laxman Utekar. It also stars Randeep Hooda in a pivotal role. It traces her life from the 1940s to the 1990s and her impact on the Marathi cultural stage. The sequence in which Shraddha Kapoor, aka Eetha, returns to the stage moments after giving birth has gone viral. In a new development, Vithabai Narayangaonkar's family has expressed apprehensions about the movie's title. They are worried about misrepresentations of the dancer's life and Marathi folk traditions.
