‘Ikka’ Trailer Review: Sunny Deol And Akshaye Khanna Face Off In A Riveting Courtroom Drama

The gavel has struck and the court is in session. The trailer for Netflix’s “Ikka” has dropped, promising an explosive, high-stakes legal thriller that brings two powerhouse performers together for the first time since the legendary hit “Border” (1997). Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna return, trading the battlefields of war for an equally ruthless, ideologically charged courtroom.

At the center of “Ikka” is Shouryaman Gaur (Akshaye Khanna), the enigmatic son of industrialist and general election candidate Harshvardhan Gaur (Shishir Sharma). Shouryaman finds himself squarely in the crosshairs of a high-profile murder accusation. Enter Arjun Mehra (Sunny Deol), a celebrated, righteous defense attorney known for championing the innocent.

What begins as a seemingly standard legal battle quickly spirals into a web of personal history and moral dilemmas. Arjun is compelled to defend Shouryaman—a man inextricably tied to his past. The trailer masterfully hinges on a crucial question: Why has this strictly ethical lawyer taken up the defense of a suspected murderer? As Arjun digs deeper, a sudden change of heart hints at dark secrets lurking beneath the surface. Shouryaman is hiding something massive, and Arjun's decision to represent him begins to cost him his convictions, his past reputation, and the safety of his own family.

The trailer’s absolute highlight is the electrifying face-off between Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna. Witnessing these two at the top of their game is pure cinematic joy. Akshaye plays Shouryaman with a chilling, arrogant, yet intensely calculated restraint that keeps you guessing about his true motives. On the flip side, Sunny Deol brings a grounded, deeply emotional gravity to his role. Sunny revisits the courtroom territory over three decades after “Damini”. The trailer even serves up a brilliant, meta call-back to his iconic "Dhai kilo ka haath," proving that his roar is just as potent as ever.

Adding layers to this explosive dynamic is the formidable Tillotama Shome as Madhura Banerjee, the sharp public prosecutor leading the charge for the State. Madhura once idolized Arjun Mehra, but seeing her mentor defend a compromised man shatters her respect, setting up a fierce ideological warfare between the two. Meanwhile, Dia Mirza is in the crossfire, grounding the high-decibel thriller with raw emotional stakes.

The narrative looks to be a perfectly balanced puzzle where personal relationships and legal warfare bleed into one another. Filled with sharp cross-questioning, shifting loyalties, and dense psychological tension, the trailer successfully leaves the audience guessing. True to its title, “Ikka” makes us wonder: what is the ultimate ace up everyone’s sleeve?

Mark your calendars; this courtroom drama premieres on July 10 on Netflix, and it looks absolutely unmissable.
