‘Ramayana’: Producer Namit Malhotra Addresses Criticism to First Teaser on Social Media; Terms it ‘Massive Responsibility’
The teaser of “Ramayana,” unveiling the look of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, was released on Hanuman Jayanti. Given the unprecedented hype around the project, the expectations were sky-high. However, the response to the first look was varied, and there was sharp criticism for aspects like the color grading, poor VFX and lack of authenticity and grandeur in the aesthetic department. There were also comparisons to the many series on Ramayana on Television, and how Indian mythological epics should be only made by TV producers who understand the sentiments. Producer Namit Malhotra finally decided to address all this criticism with a statement. He said that his team was monitoring all the feedback about the teaser and looking into the same.
“Ramayana” is releasing on Diwali 2026 and there is still time for its release. Malhotra reassured fans that he is aware of the massive responsibility on his shoulders and would do full justice to the sentiment. Over the years, the epic ‘Ramayan’ has had various retellings for the screen, especially Indian TV. After the first teaser, a lot of clips comparing “Ramayana” to previous shows flooded social media. After having declared that the film has a massive budget of ₹4,000 crores, the pressure on the makers to deliver an ‘outstanding” movie is huge.

Malhotra’s carefully worded post on how he is “overwhelmed” by the response signals that the makers are treading cautiously. He said that every department is paying heed to the feedback to deliver a movie that captures the reverence of the Indian audience for Lord Rama.
Nitesh Tiwari is the director, with a huge ensemble cast. While Yash is playing Ravan, Sai Pallavi is in the role of Maa Sita. The other cast members are Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Rakul Preet Singh as Soorpanakha to name a few. AR Rahman and Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer are taking care of the music department.
