After a long stand-off, it seems like the stalemate between Ministry of Broadcasting and Information and BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) is finally showing some signs of resolving. The issue around TRPs, which was centered around landing pages led to the suspension of TRP ratings. A high-level meeting was held in New Delhi between officials to find solutions for broadcasters ahead of the festive season. The secretary of the Ministry of Broadcasting and Information discussed the need to bring back the TRP ratings at the earliest ahead of the festive season. If things go as planned, the TRPs might return by August 27.

BARC has also done its best to meet the directives issued by the Ministry of Broadcasting and Information. Its measurement panel has now reached 70, 786 homes and is expected to touch 800 homes by December. They are also making changes in the governance of the body. The Ministry is keen to streamline the ratings making sure the TRPs reflect genuine TV consumption. Broadcasters have been very stressed about it as changes in methodology means different buying and spending decisions for channels.

There is a chance of this date being moved by 10 days if there is some delay in the approvals. "Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan" was the No.1 show when the TRPs were suspended with "Vasudha" and "Tumm Se Tumm Tak" close on its heels. The sudden halt to the TRPs had left the TV industry in shock. In the mean time, people were relying on numbers from Ormax.
