From Doctor Doom To Ghost Rider: The Biggest Bombshells, Castings And Release Dates From Marvel At San Diego Comic-Con 2026
Marvel Studios reclaimed its crown as the king of San Diego Comic-Con with a star-studded, announcement-packed presentation inside Hall H. Led by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, the blockbuster panel brought a wave of game-changing updates for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ranging from long-awaited sneak peeks and surprise character returns to long-term release dates stretching into 2028. From an immersive look at “Avengers: Doomsday” to shocking casting reveals for the future of “Ghost Rider” and “Black Panther”, the showcase made it clear that the MCU’s next era is set to be its most ambitious yet.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Takes Center Stage
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige kicked off the star-studded presentation by ushering directors Anthony and Joe Russo to the Hall H stage, joined by a massive ensemble cast. The roster included Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, and Hayley Atwell (who officially confirmed her return as Peggy Carter).
Addressing the crowd, Downey Jr. reflected on his dramatic panel return two years prior and spoke about taking on a darker role:
"It's not easy being green," Downey joked. "I need a lot of help... to finally assist me in being an arch-enemy, which is daunting. But decisions will have to be made. Perhaps you're on the side of the good guys, or perhaps you'll have to consider the alternative."
The crowd was fully immersed in the spectacle as every attendee received a Doctor Doom cloak and mask, which Downey Jr. (playing Victor von Doom) instructed the audience to wear while viewing exclusive, in-room footage.
The film, that hits theatres on December 18, pits iconic heroes across three separate universes against a catastrophic threat. Directed by the Russos and produced by Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz, the sprawling cast also features Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, Kathryn Newton, Alan Cumming, and Mabel Cadena.

Feige dropped another bombshell by announcing a brand-new ‘Ghost Rider’ feature film set for 2028. Star Ryan Gosling and director Shawn Levy took the stage to confirm the project, which will be written by Jonathan Tropper.
Levy recalled how the collaboration came together while working on another major project:
"We spent a lot of time last year making Star Wars: Starfighter," Levy shared. "And as Ryan started talking about his vision for this character, we started riffing, and I finally said, 'Bro, let’s ride.' So guys, we’ll see you in 2028."

Adding to the unexpected moments, Jon Bernthal surprised the crowd by joining Feige on stage. Bernthal shared an early sneak peek at his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher in Sony Pictures' upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
A New Era Begins: David Jonsson Introduced in Black Panther 3
To close out the showcase, Feige invited Oscar-winning director Ryan Coogler back to the stage to confirm his return for a third ‘Black Panther’ installment. Flanked by cast members Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, Coogler announced that the film will mark a major turning point for Wakanda by passing the mantle to David Jonsson.
Jonsson will portray the son of the late Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa in a coming-of-age story that tracks his journey into becoming the new Black Panther.
Stepping out to a standing ovation, Jonsson addressed the crowd:
"Thank you Ryan, thank you Kevin, thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and the privilege and the blessing to join. I actually don’t want to say too much because I want to let the screen do the talking. But believe me, the honor is entirely mine."
‘Black Panther 3’ is scheduled for release on December 15, 2028.
