Ahead of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ The Beloved Franchise’s India Box Office Report Card
While all the superheroes assembled in Avengers enjoy a humongous fanbase in India, Spider-Man holds a special place as it was among the first iconic cartoon characters to have a big-screen adaptation. Tobey Maguire’s version inspires nostalgia among millennials, while Andrew Garfield’s version is remembered for its emotional depth. On the other hand, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man won hearts for the character’s authentic teenage awkwardness and integration in the Avengers.
In the last Spidey film, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” all three actors came together, which ensured the film became a universal blockbuster. While fans and cinegoers are expecting a similar result from the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” here’s a look at the box office performances of previous Spider-Man films in India.
Spider-Man: 2002 (₹25 crore)
The film directed by Sam Raimi featured Tobey Maguire in the titular role. The film earned a massive ₹25 crore. In the movie, Willem Dafoe played the antagonist, Green Goblin, with Kirsten Dunst playing the protagonist’s love interest, Mary Jane.

The Marc Webb directorial, which featured Andrew Garfield as the superhero, opened to packed houses during its Indian release and raked in ₹57.75 crore at the box office. In this reboot franchise film, Rhys Ifans played the main villain Dr. Curt Connors/Lizard, with prominent roles for Emma Stone and Irrfan.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 2014 (₹81 crore)
In the second installment, Garfield faced off against Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro, a performance that was well received by audiences. Despite garnering mixed reviews, it emerged as a blockbuster with ₹81 crore.
Spider-Man: Homecoming: 2017 (₹48.35 crore)
The Tom Holland-starrer, directed by Jon Watts, emerged as a fan favorite with a perfect blend of technology and teenage awkwardness. Also starring Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zendaya and Robert Downey Jr, the movie collected ₹48.35 crore in India.
Spider-Man: Far From Home: 2019 (₹102 crore)
While Tom Holland reprised his role with innocence and sincerity, Jake Gyllenhaal stole the show in the sequel as the lead antagonist Quentin Beck / Mysterio. The film hit a century, with a grand collection of ₹102 crore at the box office.
Spider-Man: No Way Home: 2021 (₹217.10 crore)
The last part brought together Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. It also featured Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori and Marisa Tomei. The epic crossover of all Spideys exploded the Indian box office, collecting a massive ₹217.10 crore.
