Tusshar Kapoor on the Enduring Charm of ‘Golmaal’: ‘It’s Naughty, But Innocent And We Have Kept That Innocence Alive’ (EXCLUSIVE)
As Bollywood continues to lean heavily on franchises, Tusshar Kapoor emphasizes that there is no fixed formula for a franchise to succeed. The actor, who has been an integral part of Rohit Shetty’s “Golmaal” franchise since its inception in 2006, says longevity comes from consistently delivering what audiences expect from a series. The series features Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu.
“I think there is no guarantee that a franchise will always be successful. If you’re able to live up to the expectations of the people and deliver on what they like about that franchise, that’s when it becomes a success,” Kapoor says.

Reflecting on the enduring popularity of the “Golmaal” films, he says, “I think the credit for Golmaal’s success goes to the captain of the ship, Rohit Shetty, and then all of us as a team coming together with that same energy. Everything put together has worked for the franchise.”
Kapoor, who is currently working on the fifth film in the franchise, also points out that its appeal lies in its clean, family-friendly humor. “I think it’s a very clean, child-friendly, family franchise and that really works for it. There’s nothing vulgar or misogynistic about ‘Golmaal.’ When people go to watch a Golmaal film, they know it’s clean family entertainment,” Kapoor adds.
Maintaining the innocence and tone of the franchise has been a conscious effort by everyone involved. “It’s naughty, but it’s still got an innocence, and we’ve kept that innocence alive. As a team - the writer, the director, all the actors - together, we maintain that clean vibe consciously for this franchise and it’s a complete masala entertainer.”
