‘The Odyssey’ Box Office: Christopher Nolan’s Epic Set For $200 Million Opening

“The Odyssey” is the latest masterpiece from director Christopher Nolan. Ahead of its July 17 release, the theaters are gearing up for a massive opening weekend. With just two days left, early numbers appear greatly positive for the film, with reports claiming a $90-100 million opening frame in North America, alongside another $110 million in the overseas market.

As per DEADLINE, a solid $200 million opening for the Matt Damon starrer appears very likely. Within this, the domestic box office seems to be in the $ 85-$100 millioin range, while the 22,700 screens available globally across 73 territories are targeting $110 million in overseas box office. It is expected to surpass the double-million mark as per Universal’s expectations.

On the other hand, non-studio sources indicate a more subdued response. So far, $30-40 million in early ticket sales have supposedly been locked in, which is a surprising drop from the numbers of “Wicked: For Good” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which raked up $60 million and $50 million respectively. Box Office Pro numbers appear to be $100+ million domestically and over $220+ million worldwide. Case in point, the latter was MCU’s first R-rated project, which may have affected the numbers.

The ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup raises a significant concern regarding the figures in the United Kingdom and audience interest. With the possibility of England landing in the Sunday finals, the weekend seems to be in a dangerous position for the film’s release.

Compared to “Oppenheimer’s” $98.7 million domestic and $181.1 million international opening, there’s no “Barbie” for Odysseus to compete against this time around. Moreover, it amassed 17,500 screens, making for a profitable outlook this time around.
