‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’: Stars Who Didn’t Make The Final Cut

Everyone wanted to be a part of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” Justin Theroux, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon, Lucy Liu, Rachel Bloom, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, Patrick Brammall and Helen K. Shen were amongst the many fresh faces alongside the OG fantastic four - Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. And yes, one can’t forget the cameos from the likes of Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, Naomi Campbell, Marc Jacobs, Heidi Klum, Jon Batiste, Law Roach and Amelia Dimoldenberg.

While all these actors slayed in the film, there were a few unfortunate ones who were left out of the final edit.

Here’s who got left out

Conrad Ricamora

Conrad Ricamora took time off from “Oh, Mary!” last year to play Andy’s roommate in a few scenes that didn’t make it to the final cut. According to Variety, her part was cut after audiences at test screenings questioned the point of the character. Ricamora, being a true sport, said in an Instagram post that, “My character didn’t make sense in the grand scheme of the film.” He followed that with a joke on how he was actually omitted for “being too sexy and hot and my muscles being too big,” before saying that getting to work for the film was “one of the best working experiences of my life.”

Sydney Sweeney

The “Euphoria” star shot a cameo where she plays herself opposite Emily Blunt’s character. A three-minute scene featured Sweeney getting dressed by Emily Charlton inside the Dior offices for an event before Andy, Miranda and Nigel show up to seek the latter’s help. Reports revealed that this was removed owing to structural and flow reasons.

Anna Wintour

While people couldn’t stop raving about Wintour and Streep looking like a million bucks on the Vogue cover, having the duo in the film might just have been too much to ask for. Director David Frankel, in an interview with EW, did say that, “(Wintour) did come to the set one day, and we did one take with her on camera. We actually explicitly didn’t want Anna to be in the movie because it’s a parallel world. It was like, well, what is Vogue and who is Anna Wintour in a world where there’s a Runway and Miranda Priestly? It felt like it was too meta and would be distracting.”

Adrian Grenier

Considering his character, named Nate, and Andy went their separate ways in the first movie, it isn’t surprising that he wouldn’t have a scene in the sequel (despite fans asking if he’s going to make an appearance). That said, you can only be part of a film if you shoot for it. And Grenier didn’t. “I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and, in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen,” said Frankel when asked about it.

Grenier made a light-hearted joke about being left out in a recent Starbucks ad that also saw him acknowledging Nate’s reputation among fans. “He made a mean sandwich, loved his girlfriend... to a point,” Grenier says in the ad. “Okay, so, he wasn’t perfect. So, let’s leave Nate in 2006 and keep this good energy going!”
