‘Thank You’ Review: Jackson Wang Strips to His Soul in Heartfelt Fan Song
Jackson Wang is a man of many trades. From sports to singing and designing to running a business, he has done it all over the 32-years of his life. The Hong Kong singer and rapper has now dropped a new song thanking his fans for all their support.
Titled “Thank You,” Wang talks about being a chaotic child from his childhood days and then continuing with it across his many ventures. The lyrics are no complex feat, but the hard-hitting notes in the back ensure that they come off as a raw confession and not a simple take.
The song’s music video starts in a practice room as a once-lonely Jackson is joined by his team who, one by one, occupy places in his life. There are people dressed in fencing clothes, a nod to his sporting days, as well as what could be his former athlete parents dressed in their uniforms, standing alongside the singer himself. He can be seen with replicas of the many eras he lived as a solo musician, coming together with gratitude towards his fans. The singer cast his real-life fans to be a part of the music video and held auditions for them in 80 regions, choosing 30 of them from China, the U.S., Australia, Mexico, the UK and more to join him for this clip.

In the lyrics, Wang can be heard calling himself a “product” of the entertainment industry, reflecting deeply on the life he has lived so far. He keeps it direct while admiring the fans for their support during storms. The synth in the back keeps it real as the star exchanges his heavy rap for a more honest admission about himself.
The Ojun Kwon-directed music video ends it with a photo from his childhood and the words, “I am Jackson. In the chaotic world, thank you for letting me be a wild child. This is for my fans.”
“Thank You” is unlike any other song by the singer, taking on a mellow and sincere tone as opposed to his usual in-your-face, club-ready beats that take up most of his discography. Staying true to its fan song nature, the track sheds off exuberance to present gratitude on a plate.
The release of the single marks his first as a member of ROC Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z. Fellow labelmates include Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Megan Thee Stallion and A$AP Rocky.
