Tabu Moves Delhi High Court Against Unauthorized AI Use, Digital Impersonation of Her Identity
Tabu has approached the Delhi High Court seeking legal protection for her personality and publicity rights. In her plea, she has objected to the alleged unauthorized use of her name, photographs, likeness and other identifying attributes, including AI-generated content and instances of digital impersonation.
IANS reported that Justice Jyoti Singh heard the matter but deferred the case after checking the documents filed on the actor’s behalf. As per the report, the documents from Tabu’s end held discrepancies. Singh also noted that the memo of the parties that were submitted by Tabu did not have the correct details. Senior advocate Swathi Sukumar, who is appearing for Tabu, has been instructed to file a new memo.

Singh also urged to produce the accurate particulars of all parties to take the appropriate action and perform the proper adjudication of the matter. The matter has now been listed to August 6 on the advice of the court.
Tabu has sought legal intervention over the alleged commercial misuse of her identity across digital platforms. Her petition raises concerns about the unauthorized use of her name, photographs, likeness and other identifiable attributes, including their use in AI-generated material, digital impersonation and other forms of online abuse. The move comes amid increasing concerns within the entertainment industry about deepfakes, fabricated endorsements and AI-powered content being used to exploit the identities of public figures.

This week, Mrunal Thakur also warned legal action against AI deepfakes misusing her identity. The "Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha" actress took to social media to state, “Creating or sharing deepfake content using my likeness is illegal and unacceptable. Consider this your formal notice to stop immediately. Any further misuse of my identity will result in legal action.”
Previously, celebrities including Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Kartik Aaryan and Suniel Shetty have approached courts for the use of their images and voices illegally, which results in AI-driven identity theft.
