Creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg recently told The Times of London that “The Studio” Season 2 will be “acknowledging” the death of series star Catherine O’Hara, who died in January at 71.

“It has been an unbelievable challenge,” Goldberg said of continuing the show without O’Hara. “Obviously emotionally, dealing with the loss, but also when it comes to the show itself. We wrote it for her to be there. We had it all set and the shock waves permeate throughout the entire new season. It’s been difficult. You worded it better than we could — she was the anchor and now the anchor is gone.”

Rogen added, “If anything, we’re acknowledging the idea that we are a little anchorless. But, honestly, that is a part of life and what we all experience. And so while we try to not dwell too much on heavy themes in this show, they will be there in this second season. We are not ignoring it.”

O’Hara starred in “The Studio” Season 1 as Patty Leigh, a Hollywood exec and pseudo-mentor to Rogen’s studio head Matt Remick. The role earned her an Emmy nomination in 2025 for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.

According to her agency CAA, O’Hara died on Jan. 30 in her Los Angeles home following a brief illness. Highlights of her five-decade career in comedy include starring roles in films like “Best in Show,” “Home Alone,” “Beetlejuice” and “After Hours.” Her best-known role was playing defrauded housewife Moria Rose on the CBC sitcom “Schitt’s Creek.” The part won O’Hara her second Emmy in 2020.

After winning 13 Emmys with Season 1, “The Studio” was renewed at Apple TV for Season 2 in May 2025. Rogen told the press at the Golden Globes that the new season was set to begin production in mid-January.
