June 2026 Box Office Preview: Theaters Brace for a Busy Month as Big Releases Arrive Every Week

May 2026 turned out to be one of the most successful months for Indian films at the box office. Regional cinema, particularly Tamil, Malayalam and Marathi cinema, dominated at ticket windows, delivering a string of success stories as “Drishyam 3,” “Karuppu,” “Athiradi,” “Raja Shivaji” and “Deool Band 2”.

The momentum is expected to continue in June as well. With more than half a dozen major releases scheduled across multiple languages, the month carries even bigger box-office potential. Each week is packed with multiple releases across genres, ensuring a steady flow of content for audiences and sustained footfalls in cinemas.

The first (and possibly the biggest release of this week) is Ram Charan-starrer “Peddi”, which released today. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the rural sports actioner carries phenomenal pre-release buzz and is expected to perform exceptionally well at the box office. Telugu films have lately disappointed at the box office and “Peddi” could potentially end that streak, with trade experts expecting that it could become the highest-grossing Telugu film of this year so far. The No.1 spot currently remains with Chiranjeevi's “Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu” which has collected ₹218 crore net in India and ₹301 crore gross globally.

Hindi cinema will have four major releases throughout June. It starts with David Dhawan's “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai” and Anurag Kashyap's “Bandar” this Friday. While the commercial prospect of the latter remains uncertain, the Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde starrer romantic comedy is expected to go beyond ₹60 crore at the box office. It's set to open better than all the Hindi releases of last month, indicating a potentially improved phase for Hindi cinema.

June 12 will see four Hindi films releasing — Imtiaz Ali's “Main Vaapas Aaunga”, Kangana Ranaut's “Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata”, Manoj Bajpayee's “Governor: The Silent Saviour” and Vikram Bhatt's “Haunted 3D: Echoes Of The Past”. All of these films have generated minimal buzz, with Imtiaz's Partition-era love story possibly turning out to be the biggest grosser among them.

The following week, on June 19, Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer “Cocktail 2” will be released in theatres. As of now, the film has struggled to generate a substantial buzz and is likely to open below 8-9 crore at the box office. The box office projections of this film are not looking encouraging and its commercial fate will likely depend heavily on audience reception and word-of-mouth.

The last Friday of the month, June 26, will bring Akshay Kumar's ensemble-comedy “Welcome to The Jungle” to theatres. The film is undoubtedly the biggest Hindi film of the month and is expected to emerge as one of the biggest grossers of the year. If the content resonates with audiences, it's highly likely to become among Akshay Kumar's highest-grossing films, even surpassing the recent “Bhooth Bangla,” which has so far collected 175 crore net at the domestic box office. Overall, June is widely expected to outperform May for Hindi cinema.

Another Blockbuster Month for Regional Cinema?

This new month looks equally promising for regional cinema. The Marathi film industry will likely continue its strong run with much-awaited films like “Tumbadchi Manjula” (June 5), “Cup Bashi” (June 19) and “Ghabadkund” (June 19) all registering significant pre-release excitement among audiences.

Tamil cinema has a packed release calendar throughout June. “Parimala and Co” releases this Friday and will be followed by “Habeebi” on June 12, and three new films — “Con City”, “Hartin” and “Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku” scheduled on June 26.

Telugu cinema has multiple other notable releases after “Peddi”. “Sing Geetham” releases on June 11, followed by three films on June 19 — “Deewana”, “Chettu Meedha Dhayyam Nakem Bhayam” and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's action drama “Maa Inti Bangaram”, with the latter expected to emerge as the winner among them. Akhil Akkineni's action romance “Lenin” releases on June 26.

Malayalam cinema will have a comparatively quiet month. “Mollywood Times” releases on June 5, while “Varavu” hits cinemas a week later on June 12, with no other major release currently scheduled for the remainder of the month.

Meanwhile, Hollywood has seven new films scheduled to release this month. “Masters Of The Universe” and “Scary Movie” release this Friday. “Disclosure Day” and “Backrooms” follow on June 12, “Toy Story 5” on June 19, and “Supergirl” and “The Invite” on June 26.

With major releases in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam and English, June 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most crowded and potentially lucrative months of the year for the theatrical exhibition sector. ‘Acche Din’ are here to stay!
