Mohanlal’s L367 Titled ‘Operation Ganga,’ Inspired by India’s Ukraine Evacuation Mission
Mohanlal’s 367th film has officially received its title. The Malayalam superstar’s upcoming collaboration with filmmaker Vishnu Mohan will be called “Operation Ganga,” drawing its inspiration from India’s evacuation mission launched during the Russia Ukraine war.
The film, previously known by its working title L367, stars Mohanlal alongside Arjun Rampal, Bhagyashri Borse, Parthiban and Adil Hussain. Vishnu Mohan, who won the National Award for Best Debut Film of a Director for “Meppadiyan,” is writing and directing the project.
“Operation Ganga” takes its name from the Indian government’s 2022 evacuation mission, launched following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The operation was undertaken to bring Indian citizens, including a large number of students studying in Ukraine, back home as the conflict escalated. Since Ukrainian airspace was closed, the evacuation involved moving Indian nationals across Ukraine’s neighbouring borders before flying them back to India.

The film marks one of the first major fictional features to draw from the operation, although Vishnu had earlier indicated that the project was based on multiple real incidents and was not a conventional army film.
The project was announced in January as Mohanlal’s 367th feature film. At the time, the makers remained tight lipped about the subject, though speculation surrounding a possible connection to Operation Ganga had already emerged. The new title and announcement now confirm the historical backdrop of the film.
The supporting cast brings together actors from across Indian cinema. Arjun Rampal, Bhagyashri Borse, Tamil filmmaker and actor Parthiban, and “Life of Pi” and “English Vinglish” actor Adil Hussain are all part of the ensemble.
The film has assembled a technical team that includes cinematographer Miroslaw Kuba Brozek, known for his work on the “Pushpa” films, and production designer Rajeevan. South Korean action director Sea Young Oh, whose recent Indian credits include “Kill” and “Dhurandhar,” will handle the action choreography.
Shashwat Sachdev, who has composed for films including “Uri: The Surgical Strike,” “Article 370” and “Dhurandhar,” is composing the music. The crew also includes editor Shameer Mohammed, sound designer Bishwadeep Chatterjee, VFX supervisor K.V. Sanjit and military advisor Squadron Leader Varlin Panwar.
“Operation Ganga” is produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies. Baiju Gopalan and V.C. Praveen serve as co-producers, while Krishnamoorthy is the executive producer. The film is currently in production, with portions reportedly being shot in Georgia. Mohanlal is expected to join the shoot as the project moves into its next phase.
For Mohanlal, “Operation Ganga” adds another large-scale project to a packed upcoming slate. But unlike his franchise films and fictional action spectacles, the Vishnu Mohan directorial is rooted in a relatively recent real world event that saw thousands of Indians evacuated from a war zone. The makers have not yet announced a release date.
