Gashmeer Mahajani Gets Candid On Why ‘108 Hospital Base – Uri’ Is A First For Him In Many Ways (EXCLUSIVE)
Gashmeer Mahajani who has been part of TV serials like “Imlie,” and “Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal,” is back with a new finite series, “108 Base Hospital - Uri,” which also stars Erica Fernandes, Nikhil Khurana, Smita Bansal, Hiten Tejwani in important roles. Mahajani plays the role of Major Anirudh Jaiswal who is a trauma surgeon. Mahajani tells Variety India that the chance to wear the uniform onscreen was a big draw for him.
He says, “It’s fantastic. This is the first time I am going to do that, be an army officer onscreen. So, this show gives me that opportunity. I was super excited. Secondly, I have done characters so far which have been very edgy, like a little in the grey zone.”

Mahajani is also excited to play a character who is morally upright. He shares, “Major Anirudh Jaiswal is a good man. Yes, he makes mistakes, which lead to problems but he has a good character. Whatever the situation, he never crosses that line and goes into a grey area. And it has lots of action. I love doing action.”
“108 Base Hospital - Uri,” is a finite show that will air on weekends on Colors and JioHotstar. After Ektaa Kapoor’s “Naagin 7” it is a big-ticket show to take up that space. Mahajani opines, “I feel this is the perfect slot for this kind of a show. The channel has made a bold move trying this format on television. This is the first time it's happening. We sincerely wish and hope that this format works.”
The show has been filmed like a series made for streaming. Mahajani feels it will attract both the web and TV audience. He is hopeful that if this attempt succeeds, it will set a precedent for such finite shows. “We need to elevate the kind of content airing on Indian TV. Creators need support to tell fresh stories, which work in this limited episodes format,” he adds.
Mahajani confesses that he is a great fan of Tom Cruise's onscreen military man outing in “Top Gun." “I also loved Vicky Kaushal in ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike.’ I feel the whole of India loved him in that film,” he says.
The actor who works in Hindi and Marathi entertainment industries reveals he is more open to TV projects provided they are finite in nature. He shares, “I liked the script of this show. For me, a TV show has to have limited episodes to take it up. This project felt like a win-win situation. The script was nice, the character is good and it’s a finite series. I cannot not make time for a daily soap. I took up one but I had to quit it mid-way.”
Mahajani is a prolific actor in both Hindi and Marathi film industries. He has turned a producer with a movie with Sai Tamhankar. He says, “I'm starting to produce films now. So, after I finish this show, I'll start shooting for my next Marathi movie. My film is going on floors from August.”
Talking about the success of Marathi films, he quips, “I think Marathi films are booming and will boom for the next 15 years. In the month of May, we made a profit of around ₹200 crores at the box office. So, now there is no looking back. I think it is just going to go upwards from now on.”
As of now, BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council), has suspended TRPs. Mahajani asserts that he is not someone who stresses about numbers and metrics. He says, “No, no. We're not worried about that. See, whatever you have in your hands, you have to think about it. We can make a good show and keep our fingers crossed that the audience will appreciate it.”
