Bhumi Pednekkar Joins Rishab Shetty in ‘The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’; Will Play Warrior Queen Belawadi Mallamma
By Sakshi Navare,
Bhumi Satish Pednekkar is the latest addition to the cast of Rishab Shetty’s magnum opus “The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.” The actress will essay the role of Belawadi Mallamma, the fearless warrior queen remembered for her courage and unwavering spirit, in the film directed and produced by Sandeep Singh. She joins the cast led by Rishab Shetty as the legendary warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, alongside Arjun Rampal, Vivek Oberoi and an ensemble of celebrated performers.
About joining the film, Pednekkar says, “I’m deeply honored to be part of the cinematic spectacle of this scale on the life and legacy of the great Maratha warrior-king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It’s a privilege for me to play Karnataka’s brave warrior queen Belawadi Mallamma and to bring her to life on screen. I am a huge “Kantara” fan, and the stunning performance by Rishab Shetty blew me away. Hence, the moment Sandeep narrated the film, the actor in me instantly said yes. This is unlike anything I’ve done before, and I’m grateful to the makers for seeing me in a completely new light.”
The Sandeep Singh directorial is being mounted on a big scale and has been planned as a two-part saga. The film is penned by Rishi Virmani, with music by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Prasoon Joshi. The tent-pole production is scheduled to go on floors later this year, with extensive pre-production already underway to bring the story of the legendary Maratha warrior king to life.
