‘Welcome to the Jungle’ Opens to ₹16.87 Crore in India; ‘Supergirl’ Debuts With ₹1.83 Crore as Holdovers Stay in Play

The Indian box-office witnessed a busy Friday with four major titles competing for audiences across genres. According to RecoBee, "Welcome to the Jungle" emerged as the clear winner on June 26, while DC Studios' "Supergirl" made its Indian debut. Holdovers "Cocktail 2" and Imtiaz Ali's "Main Vaapas Aaunga" also remained in circulation, adding to the day's overall business.

Ahmed Khan's "Welcome to the Jungle" grossed ₹16.87 crore across India on its opening day, comfortably leading the domestic box office. The film already generated ₹4.48 crore gross through paid previews on Thursday, taking its India gross total to ₹21.35 crore after two days.

Featuring one of the biggest ensemble casts assembled for a Hindi comedy, the film stars Akshay Kumar alongside Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jackie Shroff, Rajpal Yadav, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Aftab Shivdasani. The strong opening gives the franchise-backed entertainer a solid platform heading into the weekend, when family audiences are expected to drive collections further.

Meanwhile, DC Studios' "Supergirl" opened to ₹1.83 crore gross in India on Friday. Starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and directed by Craig Gillespie, the superhero film entered a marketplace dominated by the Hindi release and will now look to the weekend to build momentum through audience reception and premium-format screenings.

Among the holdovers, "Cocktail 2" collected ₹3.55 crore net on Friday, continuing its theatrical run after last week's release. The romantic drama remained among the key holdover performers despite the arrival of fresh competition.

Imtiaz Ali's "Main Vaapas Aaunga" added ₹2.75 crore net on Friday. The film continued its theatrical run with steady business as it heads into another weekend, where audience response will determine its next phase at the box-office.

Friday's figures underline the breadth of offerings currently playing in Indian cinemas. While "Welcome to the Jungle" has dominated through franchise value and a star-studded ensemble, "Supergirl" targets superhero fans, with "Cocktail 2" and "Main Vaapas Aaunga" continuing to attract audiences in their subsequent week of release.

With Saturday and Sunday traditionally delivering the biggest footfalls of the weekend, attention now shifts to "Welcome to the Jungle's" ability to convert its strong opening into sustained weekend growth and whether the holdovers can maintain stability despite the arrival of a major new Hindi release.
