Hansal Mehta’s ‘Scoop’ Season 2 to Go on Floors in February 2027 (EXCLUSIVE)
“Scoop” is set to return for a second season, and Variety India learned that the Netflix series is deep in pre-production and targeting February 2027 to begin filming. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta and the team are developing an entirely new story set in a new world, with casting currently underway.
A source says, “Pre-production is in full swing. The team is developing a new world, as Season 2 is a completely new story and not based on Jigna Vora’s story from the first season. The platform has greenlit the project and it is scheduled to go on floors around February 2027. Casting is currently underway, with the team exploring some exciting talent for the new season.”
The development follows Mehta’s earlier confirmation that a second season was being developed. In a 2023 interview, the filmmaker said Season 2 would be “very different from Season 1” and that he wanted to explore different aspects of the media through stories involving journalists, the media and news breaks.

“Scoop” Season 1, which premiered in 2023 on Netflix, drew inspiration from Jigna Vora’s memoir “Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison.” The series fictionalized elements of Vora’s life, with Karishma Tanna playing Jagruti Pathak, an ambitious crime journalist whose life unravels after she is accused of the murder of a fellow journalist. The series, created by Hansal Mehta and Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul, was produced by Matchbox Shots.
The first season also starred Prosenjit Chatterjee, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deven Bhojani, among others. Mehta directed the series, drawing on Vora’s memoir while fictionalizing the characters and dramatic narrative.
Season 2 is being built from the ground up. The makers are keeping details of the new story and characters under wraps, with the casting process currently underway. Matchbox Shots’ current slate lists “Scoop 2” among its upcoming projects.
