Elnaaz Norouzi has worked across multiple film industries, but there is one aspect of Hollywood filmmaking that she wishes Indian cinema would adopt: quieter sets. She believes that having fewer people around during a shoot can make a significant difference to an actor's performance, allowing them to focus better without unnecessary distractions.
In an exclusive conversation with Variety India, Norouzi speaks about how she prefers working in a relatively silent environment. She says, “What I love about Hollywood or the West is that the sets are silent. As an actor, I love to work in silence. I have done more than fifty advertisements in my life and have worked as a model too. I have worked in many film industries. I work better as an actor when there is less happening around me than when there is more happening around me. That’s one thing I personally struggle with in India.”

The actor points to the number of people present during a shoot as one of her biggest challenges. She adds, “At all times, when you are shooting one scene, there are hundreds of people staring at you. Not just that, there are a lot of actors with their crew around.”
She adds that adopting a more organized and professional approach to filmmaking could improve the overall atmosphere on Indian sets and potentially influence the way films are made. Norouzi explains, “In Hollywood, even if that’s the case, you would clear the eyeline. If we don’t need these people, let’s just have them wait outside. But a lot of people are like, ‘Why is she asking for people to wait outside?’ These are small things that help an actor have a free mind. If we move a little professionally in this industry, it could really change the mood on the sets. It could really change the way films are made. In Iran, we also say, ‘Too many cooks spoil the food.’ A lot of times, we are told, ‘This one is chipping in and that one is chipping in.’ That makes it a lot of people on sets.”
