‘Drishyam 3’ teaser: Mohanlal is back as Georgekutty, but why he’s scared this time around?

Thrillers in Indian cinema have never been the same ever since Mohanalal entered our lives as Georgekutty in ‘Drishyam’ back in 2013. He was an ordinary man with a small family who faced an unfortunate situation and acted in the best interests of his loved ones and proved that he’s always one step ahead of those watching him (the hunted was actually the hunter). Fast forward five years since the second installment and it seems that he may have buried a body, but he’ll never be able to bury his past. With the teaser of the ‘Drishyam 3’ having dropped just a while ago, it seems that the truth is finally catching up with him.

The teaser opens up with Georgekutty recapping the events of the first two films as one witnesses how an ordinary and innocent man and his family move heaven and earth (literally in the form of soil) as they go down a path of lies, and deception, to save themselves from going to jail.

What’s hot

What’s really intriguing about the teaser is that it shows Georgekutty in a never-seen-before avatar. Always a step ahead of the enemy, he’s seen in a church with his tone and body language being one of repentance. Having been a pillar of support to his family, he seems to have lost the will to fight and seems to be lacking the strength and courage for what lies ahead. Are we going to see someone or something finally get the better of him? Only time will tell.

What’s not

What we didn’t like was the need to explain everything all over again. We know what happened in the first film, how things went down in the second. The spoonfeeding could have been toned down. But it’s all good otherwise.

The third installment reunites director Jeethu Joseph with Mohanlal and will see several familiar faces returning to the franchise with Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopy and Siddique reprising their roles.

The film was initially planned for an April 2, 2026 release but was later postponed to May 21, aligning with Mohanlal’s birthday. Meanwhile, the Hindi version of ‘Drishyam 3’, starring Ajay Devgn, is scheduled to release on October 2, 2026.
