Chitrangda Singh Reveals Pritish Nandy Wanted Sudhir Mishra to Make ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi 2’ (EXCLUSIVE)
In an era where Bollywood wants to resurrect older successful titles and give every second film a sequel, some stories do deserve revisiting. Sudhir Mishra’s 2003 political drama "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" would be one of them. And according to actress Chitrangda Singh, it almost got a sequel.
In an exclusive chat, Singh, who made her debut in the film alongside Kay Kay Menon and Shiney Ahuja, revealed to Variety India that producer Pritish Nandy was keen on director Sudhir Mishra making a sequel to “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi” before his passing in January 2025.

“Pritish (Nandy) kept wanting to make a ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi: Part 2’, like from where they left off, and then from there on. He really, really wanted Sudhir to do that. Then, unfortunately, he passed away. And we've not really… I don't know now if we’ll ever do it. But yeah, it would have been nice.”
In "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi," Singh played Geeta Rao, one of the three leads, alongside Kay Kay Menon's rebel Siddharth Tyabji and Shiney Ahuja's political fixer Vikram Malhotra. Their lives against the backdrop of 1970s India are chronicled in the film. At the end of "Hazaaron," Siddharth is studying medicine abroad, and Geeta (who was a London-returned Indian at the start of the film) works in the village and looks after Vikram, who was badly injured while helping Siddharth.
When asked about filmmakers she wanted to work with, she says she would love to work with Sudhir Mishra again, as it had been a long time since their last collaboration. Singh led Mishra’s thriller “Inkaar” in 2013, a film that tackled workplace sexual harassment, and starred Singh alongside Arjun Rampal.
The actress also talked about "wanting to do a film with Vishal Bhardwaj forever." The actress will soon be seen opposite Salman Khan in “Maatrubhumi.” The film was slated for an April 2026 release but has now been postponed, with an official release date yet to be announced.
