Chitrangda Singh on Salman Khan: “He Wasn’t in the Scene but Showed Up to Help” (EXCLUSIVE)
Chitrangda Singh’s upcoming film "Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace" has her paired opposite Salman Khan for the first time. She plays Salman’s wife in the film. Working with Salman and getting to know him was memorable for Chitrangda. In an exclusive conversation with Variety India, she recalled a day on set where Salman’s work ethic left her in awe.
When asked what impressed her most about Salman Khan, Chitrangda said, “I realized there is no day off for Salman. I mean, he’s constantly thinking about work and the film; how he can better it, what else he can add to the VFX or any other part of the frame. That level of dedication requires something else. What I learned from him was how passionate he is about work. He is very interested in what is going on, even with other people’s scenes.”

Recalling a specific instance on the set, she added, “ There was this one day that we were shooting a pretty emotional scene for me that he was not part of. But he made sure he was there, and quite early in the day, to see that I was able to deliver in the scene. He didn’t have to be there, but he came because I am reacting to him on the phone, so he wanted to give me his lines. That is sheer dedication to the craft.”
Chitrangda said that she has also learnt from her ‘Maatrubhumi’ co-star to take it easy and not take everything too seriously. “I have learned from him to take it easy and not to get too worked up. How important it is that the atmosphere on the set is good, and everyone is happy. There is no point in screaming and shouting. It does not mean that you are doing amazing work. I think it is very important. He also loves to feed people. There has to be a nashta (snack) break for everyone and then there has to be lunch and dinner and everything, you know. So yeah, he really looks after his people and they love working with him. I think it is so, so important. If this is your life, if cinema it is for you, then you also have to have people who love you and work with them, you know. I mean, it could be a light boy, anyone can walk up and talk to him. It is amazing how he would rather spend more time talking to him than someone else more important, so to speak. It is lovely to see that. It is amazing how humble he is.”
