Box Office: ‘Obsession’ Registers Outstanding Hold on Monday, Sets Course for Successful Theatrical Run in India
Hollywood horror “Obsession” is defying box office expectations even in India.
Following its remarkable box office performance in North America and globally, the Curry Barker-directed indie horror was released in Indian theatres last Friday and has been performing extremely well at the box office ever since. The film opened to a solid ₹1.50 crore on Friday and witnessed exceptional growth over the weekend, driven by strong word-of-mouth and pre-release buzz. It recorded a remarkable 80% growth on Saturday (₹2.75 crore) and another 16% jump on Sunday (₹3.21 crore), concluding its opening weekend with an impressive ₹7.46 crore net.

While its remarkable jump over the weekend indicated strong audience reception, the film's extraordinary hold on Monday has further reinforced its box office potential. “Obsession” has collected ₹2 crore on Monday — nearly 34% higher than its first day — putting it firmly on track for a successful theatrical run in India. The four-day total now stands at ₹9.46 crore net and is likely to emerge as the second Hollywood horror hit at the Indian box office following “Lee Cronin's The Mummy” which earned around ₹25.32 crore net in April.
“Obsession” is also on course to become the fifth Hollywood success story this year at the Indian box office. Ryan Gosling's “Project Hail Mary” currently stands as the biggest Hollywood grosser of the year with ₹74.66 crore net. This is followed by “Michael” which has accumulated over ₹68.63 crore net so far. Other successful Hollywood films include “The Devil Wears Prada 2” (₹29.82 crore) and “Lee Cronin's The Mummy” (₹25.32 crore).
Globally, “Obsession” has turned out to be one of the most profitable films of the year. Since its release on May 15, the film has accumulated $105.75 million at its domestic box office in North America and more than $150 million globally, against a mere $1 million production budget. The film's strong performance in India further underscores its growing worldwide appeal.
