‘The Odyssey’ Countdown Trailer Review: Christopher Nolan’s Greek Epic Promises a Spectacular Homecoming
The new countdown trailer for Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s "The Odyssey" has been released. It reintroduces the main characters, including Matt Damon as mythological legend Odysseus, Tom Holland as Odysseus’s son Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Odysseus’s wife, Penelope, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous.

The intense glimpses in the trailer show raging oceans, devastated battlefields and violent conflict across Ithaca. These set the stage as Odysseus embarks on an arduous ten-year voyage following the fall of Troy. Determined to return to his homeland, he must overcome countless dangers to reunite with his wife and reclaim his kingdom, where relentless suitors have taken advantage of his absence in a ruthless struggle for the vacant crown.
The trailer begins with Athena (played by Zendaya), asking Odysseus about his memory of his life in Ithaca. Athena asks, “Odysseus, don’t you remember? Thunder. Fire. Death.” Odysseus answers, “I remember a wife, a son. Home.”

The concluding scenes show Damon’s Odysseus declaring his defiance towards the gods, as he prepares for yet another war.
Interestingly, Christopher Nolan will visit India for the premiere of this upcoming mythic action epic, alongside producer Emma Thomas and actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland. This will mark the director's first-ever film premiere in the country. The movie is slated to release on July 17, 2026.
