Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’’s ‘Official New Trailer’ Review: Has A Homebound Hero, Sirens, Monsters And Daddy Issues
There’s clearly a pattern in the exposition of the setting, the geography, the history and the interplay of characters in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” trailers. And that has become even more apparent with the just released “Official New Trailer" for the highly anticipated film.
Matt Damon, obviously, was the ‘star’ in the first trailer released in the latter end of December 2025. Playing out like an extended teaser with a runtime a few seconds shy of two minutes, it has intercuts of Damon’s Odysseus making his way back to his beloved wife and son after the Battle of Troy ends. We see sequences of a battle and the King of Ithaca making his way home.
The second, however, shows you what happens at home when he is away and the intrigue that plays out in his absence. The heft is more emotional and the drama far more layered, in this longer trailer, sitting pretty at two-and-a-half minutes.
WHAT’S GOOD: Robert Pattinson’s Antinous comes out of the shadows and he is playing for keeps with Anne Hathaway’s Penelope (Odysseus’s wife) and Ithaca as the prize. It builds the hype around his devilish turn. And the fun part is that it’s not Pattinson, but Damon bringing the vengeance. With nothing including sirens, monsters (“or even the gods”) in his way, stopping him from getting home.

WHAT’S NOT: At this point, a rather underwhelming Tom Holland. Hathaway stands her ground as the proud Penelope. But it’s Charlize you yearn to see more of. Also a rather underwhelming Cyclops.
The flickering backlight against the text on screen is likely a nod to waves of resurgent hope and that’s a nice touch. All in all, this is a decent in-betweener to what might come next (possibly the final trailer), with more footage, closer to the film’s release on July 17.
