Telugu States Divided Over ‘Peddi’ Ticket Pricing: AP Clears Special Hikes; Telangana HC Blocks Move

Ram Charan’s "Peddi" has hit a roadblock in Telangana over its ticket pricing strategy, even as Andhra Pradesh has cleared special permissions for premieres and temporary hikes. The film’s team initially approached the Telangana High Court seeking approval for a ticket price increase, after repeated representations to the Home Secretary reportedly did not yield a favorable response.

However, the legal route did not go as planned. The High Court declined to intervene, citing earlier judgments related to ticket pricing policies. Following this setback, the makers have now withdrawn their petition, effectively making a price hike in Telangana unlikely at this stage.

In contrast, Andhra Pradesh has officially granted permission for special premiere shows on June 3 at 8 pm. The government order also allows a ₹600 ticket price for these premiere screenings, inclusive of GST. Additionally, a temporary ticket price revision has been approved for ten days starting from the June 4 release. Under this, single-screen theaters can charge an extra ₹100 per ticket, while multiplexes are permitted to add ₹125.

Meanwhile, discussions are still underway in Telangana. The latest update is that team “Peddi” has already met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to seek approval for the premiere shows and revised ticket rates. An official order is expected in the coming days, though uncertainty remains after the court refuses to intervene.

Industry observers note that if Telangana does not approve the hike, it could offer a clearer picture of the film’s genuine audience pull at standard ticket rates. A strong turnout without premium pricing may help producers reassess future pricing strategies for big-budget releases.

With Andhra Pradesh already moving ahead with special shows, all eyes are now on Telangana’s final decision, which could significantly influence the opening day performance of “Peddi.”
