Renuka Shahane on 32 Years of ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’: ‘Salman Khan Was Very Mischievous on Sets’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Renuka Shahane is looking back on her memories of working on Sooraj Barjatya’s 1994 blockbuster “Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!” 32 years after the film’s release. Shahane, who played Pooja Choudhury in the family entertainer, tells Variety India about her experience working with Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Barjatya on the film, which continues to be remembered as one of Indian cinema’s defining family entertainers.
Recalling her co-stars, Shahane says Salman Khan was “very mischievous” on set, while also praising his generosity as a co-star.

“Salman (Khan) was very mischievous. But he would be very appreciative of everyone when we did long takes. Madhuri (Dixit) and I share a warm and comfortable relationship, both on and off screen. It was also a dream come true to work with her. She is one of the best co-actors I have ever worked with. I still maintain that. She is a fantastic actor,” she says.
For Shahane, working with Rajshri Productions and Barjatya was another significant milestone in her career. “I also carry memories of working with Rajshri Productions. Sooraj Barjatya is one of the finest directors,” she says.
Barjatya has continued to champion the family-entertainer genre, with his upcoming film “Ye Prem Mol Liya” set to mark another addition to his filmography. Shahane believes the filmmaker’s brand of cinema still has an audience, particularly at a time when family-oriented theatrical films have become less frequent.

“Yes, they would. People are looking for things they can see as a family. These entertainers are rare now. I am sure that they would love to go as a family. Little kids would want to go with their grandparents and watch a movie. It’s a different vibe,” she says.
