‘Obsession’ Jumps 120% on Second Friday, Set to emerge as Third Biggest Hollywood Grosser of 2026

The Curry Barker-directed film continues its extraordinary theatrical run in India and collected ₹3.30 crore net on its second Friday, which marks a staggering 120% increase over its opening-day collection of ₹1.50 crore last Friday.

Driven by its exceptional global buzz and overwhelmingly word-of-mouth, the film has demonstrated outstanding staying power at the box office, with its daily collections consistently exceeding its opening-day earnings for seven consecutive days — an extremely rare feat at the Indian box office.

The eight-day total collection now stands at ₹21.49 crore net and is expected to surpass “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” (₹25.31 crore) over the weekend to emerge as the highest-grossing Hollywood horror film in India this year. Trade experts are bullish about this film’s long-term prospects and predict it will surpass ₹45 crore net in India to emerge as the third highest-grossing Hollywood film of this year, trailing only “Project Hail Mary” (₹74.90 crore) and “Michael” (₹69.35 crore).

With a bigger second weekend on the horizon, “Obsession” has proved to be a sleeper success at the Indian box office. Additionally, the underwhelming performance of this week’s major new releases, such as “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai,” “Bandar” and “Masters of the Universe,” is further expected to boost the business potential of “Obsession.”

Globally, “Obsession” has emerged as a bona fide box office blockbuster. Against the production budget of a mere $1 million, this Michael Johnston-starring horror has accumulated $126.53 million in North America and $171.30 million worldwide so far, according to Box Office Mojo.
