Indian filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat has landed his first major Hollywood project, with Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx set to headline Amazon MGM Studios' action thriller “Deadlocked.”
According to Deadline, the film follows a grieving former Marine serving jury duty whose life is upended when a high profile murder trial erupts into chaos. After the defendant's daughter seizes control of the courthouse, triggering a deadly hostage crisis, the former Marine is forced back into action to protect those trapped inside.

“Deadlocked” marks Bhat's English-language studio directorial debut following the international success of “Kill,” the Hindi action thriller that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023 before releasing theatrically in 2024. Inspired by a real-life train robbery the filmmaker experienced in 1995, “Kill” earned widespread acclaim for its visceral action and has since spawned remake plans in multiple territories.
The screenplay has been written by Eric Scot Anderson and Matt Takejiro Bosack, based on their original story. Brian Kavanaugh Jones and Fred Berger are producing for Range, alongside Dave Caplan for C2, while Foxx produces through Foxxhole Productions. Executive producers include Bourscheid, Liz Destro, Paul Currie and Corinne Foxx. The film is set to stream exclusively on Prime Video.
No additional cast members have been announced. Foxx won the Academy Award for Best Actor for portraying Ray Charles in “Ray” and also received a Best Supporting Actor nomination the same year for Michael Mann's “Collateral.” Most recently, he starred opposite Cameron Diaz in Netflix's “Back in Action” and is also attached to the upcoming sports drama “Fight for '84.”
