Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’ Sets August 14 Release, To Clash With Sunny Deol’s ‘Lahore 1947’
Vishesh Bhatt has locked August 14, 2026 as the theatrical release date for “Awarapan 2,” bringing Emraan Hashmi back to one of his most recognizable roles. The sequel to the 2007 film, positioned as an action drama, and is currently in the final leg of production in Mumbai.
The release places the film in direct competition with “Lahore 1947” which is targeting the same Independence Day window, setting up a two-way box-office clash across markets. Reports are also that the Rajinikanth's "Jailer 2" might also shift to the Independence day window. In that case this will be a tough competition.

“Awarapan 2” also stars Disha Patani, marking her first collaboration with Vishesh Films. The project is directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui. The announcement was made via social media by the lead cast and producers, accompanied by a visual teasing the film’s tone.
“Lahore 1947,” backed by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, stars Sunny Deol in the lead and is set against the backdrop of the Partition, positioning itself as a large-scale period drama.
On the other side, “Jailer 2," the follow-up to the 2023 hit, has Rajinikanth returning in the lead and Nelson Dilipkumar directing it. The sequel is expected to carry forward the commercial action template that drove the first film’s box-office performance.
With three distinct titles targeting the same date, the Independence Day frame is shaping up to be one of the most competitive release periods on the 2026 calendar, particularly in terms of screen allocation and audience segmentation.
