‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ Surpasses Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’ To Become Fifth-Highest Global Grosser For October 2-4 Weekend

“Drishyam: The Conclusion” enjoyed a phenomenal first weekend, raking in approximately ₹260.96 crore ($28.22 million) at the global box office. In fact, the crime thriller drama outgrossed Tom Cruise’s “Digger” by collecting ₹192.60 crore ($20 million).

For the October 2-4 weekend, the Abhishek Pathak directorial became the fifth-highest global weekend grosser after Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett’s “Verity” ($62.62 million), “Heart of the Beast” ($32.50 million), “Sherlock of China” ($29.48 million) and “Resident Evil” ($29.10 million).

Besides achieving this global milestone, it also became the third-highest weekend Indian grosser of the year in the domestic market. It now stands right behind Ranveer Singh’s  “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” (₹454.12 crore in a four-day weekend, including paid previews) and Yash’s “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups” (₹214.10 crore in a five-day weekend), with collections of ₹176.50 crore. It achieved this feat by dethroning biggies like Ram Charan’s “Peddi” (₹157.65 crore in a four-day weekend, including paid previews) and Sunny Deol-starrer “Border 2” (₹121 crore).

The film also became Ajay Devgn’s fifth-highest grosser of all time after “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior” (₹279.59 crore), “Singham Again” (₹247.86 crore), “Drishyam 2” (₹239.67 crore) and “Golmaal Again” (₹205.69 crore). The film is expected to enter ₹200 crore club by tomorrow, will overtake "Golmaal Again" (the fourth instalment of “Golmaal”) to grab the fourth spot on the list of Devgn’s biggest hits.

With no prominent Hindi or regional films arriving this Friday, “Drishyam: The Conclusion” will enjoy a free run at the box office. Also starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Shriya Saran, Kamlesh Sawant, Rajat Kapoor, Tabu, Ishita Dutta, Prakash Raj and Mrunal Jadhav, among others, the film is backed by Panorama Studios and Star Studio18.
