Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ Vs Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’: The Popular Franchise Takes On The Global Star

This Friday, the box office clash between two prominent films hints at an interesting battle as it not only pits Indian superstar Ajay Devgn against global star Tom Cruise, but also features a theatrical showdown between a popular Indian franchise like “Drishyam: The Conclusion” and the upcoming Hollywood biggie titled “Digger.”

While “Digger” hasn’t received positive reviews in international markets, it could perform decently with Tom Cruise’s loyal Indian fanbase and director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s artistic craftsmanship.

Established Franchise Vs Global Star Power

“Drishyam: The Conclusion,” the latest installment in one of Indian cinema’s popular franchises, has the advantage of being the final chapter. Meanwhile, the combination of Tom Cruise and Alejandro González Iñárritu, known for films such as “Birdman” and “The Revenant,” gives “Digger” considerable theatrical appeal.

Different Target Audience

The target audience for both films is very different. While Ajay Devgn’s thriller will target Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets along with metro cities, “Digger” is primarily targeted towards the high-end multiplexes with IMAX formats and metro cities.

Special Release Date Connection

The national holiday of Gandhi Jayanti gives both films an opportunity to benefit from increased footfalls. However, “Drishyam: The Conclusion” has an additional connection to the date, with October 2 playing a significant role in the franchise’s narrative. 

Directed by Abhishek Pathak, who also helmed “Drishyam 2,” the finale sees Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav reprise their roles, with Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj joining the cast.

Meanwhile, the Hollywood black comedy also stars Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jesse Plemons. The film is produced by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Mary Parent and Tom Cruise under Legendary Pictures and TC Productions.
