‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Explained: What’s New in Marvel’s Theatrical Re-Release

“Avengers: Endgame” is returning to theatres, but Marvel Studios is giving its 2019 blockbuster more than a routine re-release. Retitled “Avengers: Endgame Encore,” the new theatrical presentation adds fresh material and is being positioned as a bridge to “Avengers: Doomsday,” the next major Avengers event. Here’s what audiences need to know.

What exactly is “Avengers: Endgame Encore”?

“Endgame Encore” is a new theatrical presentation of the 2019 film, which originally concluded Marvel’s Infinity Saga. Marvel has confirmed three additions: a newly created introduction, additional footage and a special end tag connected to “Avengers: Doomsday.” Joe Russo has described the re-release as a “critical companion story” to the upcoming film.

The original “Endgame” ran for 181 minutes. Current theatre listings put the Encore presentation at 185 minutes, making it four minutes longer. However, Marvel has not publicly broken down exactly how those additional minutes are distributed, so specific claims about individual scenes should be treated cautiously.

What is new?

The key addition is material tied to “Avengers: Doomsday.” Marvel has not revealed the full contents of the new footage, but the special end tag is intended to connect the events of “Endgame” with the upcoming Avengers film.

That makes the re-release different from a conventional anniversary screening. Audiences are not simply being asked to revisit Tony Stark’s sacrifice, Steve Rogers’ final mission and the Avengers’ battle with Thanos. Marvel is using the return of its most consequential film to begin the next chapter of the franchise.

There is also a new presentation element: the Encore release is being used to spotlight Disney’s Infinity Vision premium-large-format initiative alongside IMAX

Why is Marvel bringing it back now?

The timing is deliberate. “Avengers: Endgame” returns to theatres on Sept. 25, 2026, while “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for December 18, 2026. That places the re-release less than three months before the next Avengers film.

For Marvel, it is an opportunity to reconnect audiences with the conclusion of the Infinity Saga while directing attention toward the next phase of its multiverse-driven story.

Does it matter for “Avengers: Doomsday”?

The new material appears designed to matter to the transition between the two films, but Marvel has not disclosed enough about the footage to say exactly how essential it will be to understanding “Doomsday.”

What is clear is that Marvel does not view “Endgame Encore” simply as a nostalgia play. It is using one of the biggest theatrical events in MCU history as a narrative and promotional handoff to its next one.

“Avengers: Endgame Encore” arrives in theatres on September 25, 2026.
