Hariharan On Creating His New Album, Youngsters Loving Ghazals and Being A Deadmau5 Fanboy (EXCLUSIVE)
Ghazal and playback singer Hariharan recently unveiled a song “Baat Se Baat,” with lyrics composed by Farhad Shehzad. His sons Karan and Akshay Hariharan have also worked with him on the same. When Variety India asked the ghazal legend on what advice he gave to his son, Akshay, when he heard that he too was keen to pursue music, he said, “I told him that I would give him six months to see his ability and thinking. When he came to me after that with his music, I felt he was promising.” His son Akshay is an EDM producer and the veteran is also a fan of the genre. “We listen to all kinds of music at home. Both of us are huge fans of Deadmau5,” he adds.

However, Hariharan said that independent music is the way ahead for the industry. He opined, “Independent artists will grow in huge numbers in the next few years. They are also the ones who keep music thriving.”
Hariharan said he is planning a ghazal reality show with Doordarshan. The singer says he sees thousands of young people at his ghazal concerts. He tells us, “I refuse to believe that they do not like this form of music. Also, I support modern elements in ghazals or any other songs as long as it has melody and appeals to my sense of aesthetics. It can be funky but it has to make sense.”
