‘The Vvaan’ Vs ‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ Box Office: Sidharth Malhotra’s Fantasy Thriller Opens Better Than MCU Re-release
Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia-starrer “The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest” enjoyed a good opening day at the box office. The film raked in ₹8 crore on its first day and became the fourth-highest opener for its lead actor after “Ek Villain” (₹16.70 crore), “Brothers” (₹15.21 crore) and “Thank God” (₹8.10 crore). The film recorded this opening across 6,746 shows nationwide, with an average occupancy of 26%.
Despite mixed reviews, “The Vvaan” has the potential to cross the ₹30 crore mark in its opening weekend. However, it has a window of only a week, with Ajay Devgn’s “Drishyam: The Conclusion” arriving next Friday, October 2, which is also the national holiday of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. The highly anticipated final chapter of the franchise is expected to take up a significant share of screens across the Hindi belt.

Meanwhile, Marvel Cinematic Universe re-release “Avengers: Endgame: Encore” fell marginally short of “The Vvaan,” collecting ₹7.25 crore on its opening day. It has now become the second-biggest re-release opener in India, behind “Baahubali: The Epic,” which collected ₹10.80 crore on its first day.
The English version of the MCU film earned ₹5.25 crore, while the Hindi, Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions added ₹1.25 crore, ₹0.30 crore and ₹0.45 crore, respectively. During its original theatrical run in India in 2019, “Avengers: Endgame” collected ₹373.05 crore. With the ₹7.25 crore earned from its re-release, its cumulative India collection now stands at ₹380.30 crore. Over the weekend, it is expected to surpass James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” (₹391.40 crore) and become the second-highest Hollywood grosser after “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” (₹500.20 crore).
