‘The Odyssey’ Box Office: Christopher Nolan’s Epic Registers a Staggering 90% Morning Show Occupancy

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has finally arrived at the box office. After enjoying record-breaking sales in advance bookings, it was evident that the film was set for a huge opening. But what’s surprising is its pure dominance in the morning shows across the country.

The English language version of “The Odyssey” registered a massive 90 percent opening, while other dubbed versions registered 70 percent, informs industry tracker Ramesh Bala. He emphasized that the southern part of the country has contributed majorly to the insane occupancy.

Prominent exhibitor and director of Aashirwad Theatres Pvt Ltd, Akkshay Rathie, also reflects on Bala's occupancy numbers and says, "I think the occupancy is largely being driven by the premium large formats like IMAX and the premium multiplexes and metros and there are enough and more places where it's 100% occupancy with more demand for the same screens. So in urban India, in the premium large formats, it's above 80% on an average and in the long tail, it's moderate to good. So we're definitely looking at a 20 plus day by the looks of the trends and average ticket price.

On the other hand, Vishek Chauhan, Chief Executive Officer at Roopbani Cinema in Bihar, informs that the Hindi-dubbed version has opened to a decent response in the northern part at 20-25 percent.

The film has garnered a phenomenal response in metros and Tier-1 markets, which is expected to contribute majorly to collections due to its premium pricing.

With “The Odyssey” taking away maximum screens, it would be interesting to see how Ajay Devgn’s “Dhamaal 4” holds, as the adventure comedy’s primary target audience is mass centers and Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

While the epic is already expected to be Christopher Nolan’s biggest opener in India, surpassing “Oppenheimer” (₹14.50 crore) by a huge margin, the film also has the potential to give a tough battle to a biggie like “Border 2” (₹32.10 crore) to register one of the highest first grossers of 2026.

The film has the advantage of a solo release; however, it will face stiff competition in the southern market next week, especially in Tamil Nadu, with the arrival of actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay’s final film, “Jana Nayagan”.
