‘Jana Nayagan’: Advance Booking of Vijay’s Final Film Off to Flying Start

After much speculation, the makers of actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay’s last movie, “Jana Nayagan,” have finally announced that the film will hit the screens on July 23. The bookings that have commenced in a few locations in Karnataka and overseas look impressive. Producer Venkat K Narayana has said that the H Vinoth directorial will be released in around 7,000 screens and in more than 30 countries.

“Leo” remains the biggest hit in Vijay’s career to date. The film raked in a record opening for a Tamil film during its release in 2023. Will “Jana Nayagan” turn out to be his highest-grossing film? The major obstacle is the leaked version of the film, which went viral on social media a couple of months ago. However, distributor Karthik Ravivarma says the impact of the leak would be minimal, as it is Thalapathy Vijay’s last film. He says, “The film may not register the numbers his last two films, ‘Leo’ and ‘GOAT,’ garnered on the first day. But the overall footfalls towards its final run would be close to what the two movies had achieved.”

The film, an official adaptation of the Telugu film “Bhagavanth Kesari,” was initially slated for release on January 9 this year. However, the film was stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film received an ‘A’ certificate earlier this month. “Jana Nayagan” was supposed to take on Sivakarthikeyan’s “Parasakthi” at the box office in January, but the film is now enjoying a solo release.

Mohan Suprith, who heads the business and operations at KVN Productions, notes that although the movie is making it to the screens after a six-month delay, the enthusiasm among fans and other cinephiles remains the same. Buoyed by the phenomenal bookings, he, too, believes that Thalapathy Vijay’s star power will overcome the damage done by the leak. He says that 17,000 tickets have been sold so far only in Karnataka, which amounts to more than a crore. He also shares that bookings in other southern states will commence on Sunday. He opens up, “We will be opening bookings one after the other, keeping in mind a strategy to attract hardcore fans and other movie buffs alike.”

Point out that “Jana Nayagan” has comparatively low hype in the Telugu states, and Mohan is confident that demand will be high once the booking begins there.
