Thalapathy Vijay’s Long-Delayed ‘Jana Nayagan’ May Finally Have a Release Date
By Thinkal Menon,
While an official confirmation is awaited from KVN Productions (the makers of Thalapathy Vijay-starrer “Jana Nayagan”) an update from Canada-based distributor York Cinemas about the release date of the long-delayed film has fans elated. The distributor’s social media has flashed a poster with July 24 as the new date. Before this, the buzz in trade circles was that the film was to lock July 23 as the new date. Meanwhile, the latest update from Tamil Nadu is that AGS Entertainment will release the film in the state.
K. Rajamannar, President - Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris and Erode Districts Film Distributors Association says, "We expect ‘Jana Nayagan’ to release on July 23, as per the information we’ve received. We are not sure if the team has delayed their decision by a day. We look forward to the official word (sic)."

The decision will likely cause a shuffle for other Tamil movies already in the fray. Arun Matheswaran's Lokesh Kanagaraj-starrer "DC" and Jason Sanjay's Sundeep Kishan-starrer "Sigma" are slated to arrive on July 31. It remains to be seen if they will stick to their plans. The fate of almost half-a-dozen films that were slated for release on July 17, too, looks bleak if "Jana Nayagan" heads to screens on July 23 or 24.
The H Vinoth directorial was initially supposed to be a Pongal release in January. The bookings overseas commenced a week ago, but were refunded after the release was cancelled at the last minute owing to censorship troubles. “Jana Nayagan” stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles. Anirudh Ravichander's music, action scenes and powerful dialogues are said to be the major selling points of the film.
