Tamannaah Bhatia Begins Shooting for ‘Ragini 3’ in London (EXCLUSIVE)

Tamannaah Bhatia is all set to serve some scary moments with the horror film “Ragini 3.” Variety India has learned that the actress has started shooting for the film in London.

Positioned as a “date-night horror” theatrical experience, the film is slated for release in 2027. The project, directed by Shashanka Ghosh, marks the return of one of Balaji Motion Pictures’ most recognizable horror properties, with Tamannaah fronting the franchise for the first time.

The London leg will serve as the production’s opening schedule, with additional shoots planned over the coming months. Story details remain under wraps. However, the project is expected to retain the franchise’s blend of supernatural horror, suspense and commercial storytelling that helped establish the “Ragini” films as a successful theatrical brand.

The new installment comes at a time when Indian filmmakers are increasingly looking at established intellectual properties to offer audiences an exciting theatrical experience. With the horror-comedy “Bhooth Bangla” and the Hollywood horror film “Obsession” emerging as major box-office successes, the genre has proved its dependability.

The “Ragini” franchise is one of the banner’s longest-running horror IPs, which began with theatrical films and later found its way into the streaming space before returning to the big screen with “Ragini 3.”

“Ragini MMS,” which was released in 2011, was directed by Pawan Kripalani. The film starred Rajkummar Rao and Kainaz Motivala. It was followed by “Ragini MMS 2” in  2014. Directed by Bhushan Patel, the sequel starred Sunny Leone alongside Parvin Dabas, Sandhya Mridul and Divya Dutta. The film’s song “Baby Doll” became a pop culture phenomenon.

The franchise then moved to streaming with two seasons of Ragini MMS: Returns in 2017 and 2019. It featured actors including Riya Sen, Karishma Sharma, Divya Agarwal and Sunny Leone. The series retained the franchise’s signature mix of horror and sensuality. With “Ragini 3,” the franchise returns to theatres after more than a decade.
